Bryant was deployed to Afghanistan as an Automotive Diesel Technician. Returning stateside, he still has challenges with PTSD and reintegration within society. Bryant has an automotive mechanic job. He liked to target shoot for fun and wanted to take on 4-wheeling, but had to sell both the 4-wheeler and his gun in order to "put food on the table.” Now, his kids are his “hobby".
"Because I didn't take care of myself due to everything I went through I have expressed to my kids how bad it can get if they do not brush their teeth." They all got new toothbrushes and toothpaste and they brush 2 to 3 times a day. Dr. Lindsey Meyer (Monticello, IA) with Operation Enduring Freedom veteran, Bryant. Dr. Jennifer Chan and her dental assistant, Justina, of Lakeview Dental Clinic in Lake Stevens, Washington, volunteered their time and skills to treat Vietnam Veteran, Rick Irish.
Rick was deployed to Vietnam where he was part of Special Handling, loading and unloading different classes of explosives in airplanes. Returning stateside, he was not aware of PTSD, though he had lots of flashbacks that lessened through the years. Those difficulties meant going through 3 marriages. He worked an array of jobs from logging, carpentry, construction, etc. He retired at 51 due to back issues and is hard of hearing. Presently, he enjoys metal detecting in the woods. Through all the struggles with transitioning back to civilian life, James worked as a gardener, greenskeeper and street sweeper for most of his life. James is pleased to be back in WA state and living with his brother. Getting treatment at the VA for his PTSD has been very helpful. James enjoys smiling with his new dentures.

We remember. With remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, we also remember those who struggle at home with the transition from war to civilian life. Time for #MissionAccomplishedMondays… Dr. Matthew Pavlovich! Seattle dentist, Dr. Matthew Pavlovich of Pavlovich Dental honored Vietnam veteran, Leslie Strothers, with an implant supported lower denture as well as relining his existing upper denture!
The generosity that Dr. Pavlovich has shown Leslie comes through in Leslie’s smile and has restored his confidence in chewing again. It has also shown Leslie that his service and sacrifices during war time are appreciated and not forgotten. Leslie is a Navy veteran who was deployed during the Vietnam War on aircraft carrier the USS Hancock between 1960-63. He was a Boiler Tender for a year and was then boat coxing (shuttling enlisted to shore and back to the ship). After his return from the war, things were tough with his marriage which resulted in a divorce. Leslie worked hard all his life at Lockheed, and later as a plumber, raising 2 boys and 2 girls. Leslie is battling some health issues and feels especially grateful to Dr. Pavlorich and E4V to have this excellent dental care. He would also like to recognize and thank the staff as well! They are such a great team! We provide opportunities for dentists across the country to give back to just one combat veteran in their private offices. Tucson dentist, Dr. Maxwell Johnson of Oracle Family Dental in Arizona, joined E4V in 2015. After taking care of Vietnam veteran, David Paine, Dr. Johnson requested to take care of a veteran each month. The comprehensive dental care provided has been reported to change these veterans' outlook on their futures. Community members, like Dr. Johnson, are stepping up to show them that they are not forgotten during their struggles and that we appreciate the sacrifices they made during war time. Dr. Johnson has also recruited specialists and dental labs he works with to assist in completing the free comprehensive dental care for the veterans he has treated. Patient comfort starts with the front office and continues in the back, so we recognize and thank the staff as well! They are such a great team!
